What is the 2000 Hail Marys devotion?
The "2,000 Hail Marys" is a Catholic devotion and powerful intercessory prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary, believed to grant graces to the faithful when prayed with sincerity. It was first popularized by a young man in 1933, who prayed it to ask for specific graces. Juan Riu Farrán wanted to become a Salesian (a Roman Catholic religious congregation founded in 1859 by Saint John Bosco to help poor and migrant youth through education and charity), a priest, and a missionary. All three were achieved: he later became a Salesian in 1935, was ordained a priest in 1946, and began his missionary work in Puerto Rico in 1952 before his death in 1996. This devotion involves praying the Hail Mary 2,000 times in Eucharistic Adoration, accompanied by the Rosary and specific petitions, to seek Mary's intercession for various needs.
The 2,000 Hail Marys can be prayed individually or, as it is here at Resurrection, in a group devotion. The devotion is considered a very powerful intercessory prayer, asking for Mary's powerful intercession with Jesus.
