Travel Information for the 2003 Mission to Tonga

  1. The team will depart Phoenix on Thursday, July 3, 2003 for Los Angeles International Airport where they will board Air New Zealand Airlines flight #55 to Nadi, Fiji. They will change planes and airlines in route to Tonga. Air Pacific Airlines will be the airline for the Fiji to/from Tonga segments. The team will arrive in the island Kingdom of Tonga on Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2003. A day will be lost due to crossing the International Date Line.
  2. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga will provide housing and many of the meals during our stay in Tonga. In the past, the teams have made a donation to the Diocese for this service.
  3. Hands Across the Ocean, Inc. will pay for the team's cost of inter-island travel in Tonga while ministering to the needs of the Tongan people.
  4. After working for 2 weeks in Tonga the members of the team will depart Tonga on Saturday, July 19, 2003 for Nadi, Fiji.
  5. The team members will depart Nadi, Fiji on Monday July 21st to return to home. The cost of airfare to and from Tonga from Phoenix is $1,305, including tax.
  6. If you will be departing from a city other than Phoenix, please contact Susan Moné for the cost of airfare from that city.
  7. A non-refundable deposit of $200 per person and a team member info form must be received on or before March 15, 2003 to reserve a seat. The deposit will be credited to his or her airfare. Checks should be made payable to: Hands Across the Ocean, Inc.
  8. Optional travel insurance is available for an additional charge. The cost is based on your age. See the insurance brochure for your cost. The premium for the optional travel insurance must be paid at the time of your deposit. You will be responsible for mailing the form and your check directly to the insurance company if you want the insurance coverage. It is hightly recommended.
  9. If you wish, the balance of your airfare may be charged on your credit card. The airline adds a "Surcharge" of 5% ($65.25) of the amount charged, if you use a credit card.
  10. The balance of your airfare must be paid by April 20, 2003. If your final payment is not received by April 20, 2003, your deposit will be forfeited and you will be dropped from the team.

  12. The cost of transportation, meals, and lodging while visiting Fiji is not included in the fare quoted above. Our travel agent is putting together a package for lodging and airport transfers for the Fiji segment of the trip plus the optional activities of sightseeing tours, fishing, snorkeling, diving, etc. We will advise all team members as soon as we receive any additional travel and cost information for the Fiji segment.
